MoreBaseball is basically a bat-and-ball game. Played between two teams of nine players each, it is still regarded as the most popular sport in New York, despite being overtaken by Football. Baseball rules are easy to follow and understand. Players of one team take turns hitting against the pitcher of the other fielding team. The idea is to prevent them from scoring runs by getting hitters out. Read on to know more about Baseball rules and regulations.
Official Baseball rulesThe game consists of nine innings. One team bats in the first half, while the other team bats in the second half, of every inning. The objective of the game is to score more runs than the other team. Runs are scored by players by completing a tour of the four bases set at the corners of the square-shaped baseball diamond field.
A player who bats and hits the ball must run counterclockwise to first base, second base, third base, and back home in order to score a run. The opposite team players attempts to prevent runs from scoring and to hit the player out, while taking runs. With three out, the teams switch roles for the next half-inning, as per the Baseball rules. Extra innings are played to resolve any tie.
There are three basic tools of the baseball game, the ball, bat, and the glove. The bat is a hitting tool, made of a single, solid piece of wood while the glove is made of padded leather. The baseball is about the size of an adult's fist.
Getting on with the Baseball rules and regulations, at the start of each half-inning, the nine players of the fielding team position themselves around the field. The pitcher has to stand on the pitcher's mound and starts pitching. The fundamental outfield positions are left fielder, center fielder, and right fielder. A neutral umpire sets up behind the catcher.
The game starts with a batter standing at home plate, holding a bat. The batter attempts to hit the ball with the bat. The catcher is supposed to catch pitches that the batter has not been able to hit. The player who is able to reach base despite proper play by the fielders has recorded a hit. We hope you have followed the above brief on official Baseball rules.
